Current Missouri insurance issues as of February 2010
Missouri insurance affordability and availability issues resemble what you would encounter if you lived in a place like Mississippi or Alabama.
Although you really can't say that Missouri is part of the Deep South, it certainly resembles a southern state in the types of health challenges that it faces. It ranks 44th in public health funding, 47th in prevalence of smoking, 42nd in cardiovascular deaths, 39th in prevalence of obesity and 40th in preventable hospitalizations. I've lived in St. Louis. All I remember were bad-smelling air, rough parts of the city and not much to do but go to bars and sporting events, so I understand. Health care premiums are rising also as premiums rose 3.3 times as fast as earnings in this state from 2000 to 2006. There's always hope for every state though. In 2009, it move from the bottom ten in nine categories of measurement of healthy states to just the bottom ten in just four categories of measurement.
