Missouri health insurance options:

These days it is important to have a health insurance policy to cover you and your family. Many people are eligible for health insurance through their employer and this is obviously the most desirable option. There are many people however who are unable to get insurance in this manner, and it is important to know that there are affordable alternatives available.

In Missouri there is a health insurance plan that is offered by the state. The name of this plan is MHIP or the Missouri Health Insurance Pool program. This program is designed to cover those individuals who would otherwise fall through the cracks, those who are unable to obtain health insurance coverage through an employer or a private pay plan either due to loss of job or other financial factors. This plan provides individuals with an pre-existing conditions to get coverage, however it won't necessarily be cheap.

The insurance pool option may be a bit pricey for insuring your entire family, however another option is available for insuring your kids. The MC+ for Kids - the Missouri State Children's Health Insurance Program is for families that fall within certain income guidelines, generally meaning that they cannot afford private coverage but they make too much for Medicaid. This option is available for such families with children under 19.

For low-income families in this state, as in all states, Medicaid is also available.

If you do not qualify for the low-cost/no-cost health insurance salternative, you might have to consider a high-deductible/health plan. These are not cushy plans. If you have a health emergency, you will have to pay a high deductible before a coverage kicks in. Before you purchase one, you should try to set up a either a flexible spending account, a health savings account or a health reimbursement account so that you reap whatever tax benefits are available to you for footing the bill for your own insurance.
