Current Louisiana insurance issues as of February 2010
Louisiana insurance affordability and availability issues tend to fall in line with the low standard of living that has unfortunately become a tradition in this state.
It's a blessing that a New Orleans team won the recent Super Bowl because Louisiana has not caught too many other breaks recently. From the longtime political corruption to crime rate to Hurricane Katrina, it's difficult to have high expectations of any part of the quality of life in this state. In fact, this state regularly ranks near the bottom when studies of quality of life in this country are done. Fittingly, approximately 43,000 residents of this state lost health coverage in 2009 and nearly a million Louisianans were expected to spend more than 10 percent of their income on health care in the same year. To be fair, it's not as if nobody is trying to improve the way the current situation. In 2007, Congress passed resolutions greatly expanding State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Senator Landrieu had to recently defend proposed an additional 300 million dollars in the proposed federal health care reform legislation to expand assist the state's Medicaid services. This became the subject of recent media fodder when an operative for Fox News illegally attempted to infiltrate her office to find out why those opposing Senator Landrieu could not get their complaints through. One hopes that Fox News will display the same amount of concern for Louisiana's uninsured children.
