Current Kentucky insurance issues as of February 2010

Kentucky insurance issues of affordability and availability are not readily apparent from the sentiment of the residents of this state.

What is going on in Kentucky could be a snapshot of the challenges that people face getting health coverage nationwide. You have a growing number of uninsured children here, from working class families. The largest group of uninsured ethnically is white, although minorities tend to be uninsured more often than not. Many employers don't offer affordable health coverage and premiums are too high in the private market. Even so, as of fall 2009, over seventy percent of Kentuckians reported in a poll that they had some type of health insurance and over 85 percent reported that they were satisfied with what they had. It remains to be seen whether this sentiment will remain consistent as health care cost rise in the future.
