Current Kansas insurance issues as of February 2010
Kansas insurance affordability and availability issues will be addressed in the near future in order to protect the children of that state.
While the ranks of the uninsured in this state have not grown dramatically, it does face problems that are typical of the rest of the country, such as rising premiums and increasing ranks of uninsured children. The new ranks of uninsured children tend to come from working-class families, so as health insurance premiums continue to rise, this problem should be expected to be more prevalent everywhere. Accompanying this scenario is the reported expectation that over 600,000 families in this state were expected to pay over 10 percent of their income in health care costs in 2009. Close to 200,000 Kansans are in families that are expected to pay over 25 percent of their pretax income in health care costs. While Kansas may not make the headlines the way that other states might statistically, these trends point towards an ominous future.
