Current Arizona insurance issues as of February 2010
Arizona insurance availability and affordability issues are influenced by regional political issues. For this state, it's difficult to separate the issues of health care and immigration. According to HealthReform.gov, one of the most oft-voiced concerns for this state is the burden that illegal immigration is putting on their Medicare system. One of the challenges that Senator John McCain has faced within his own party is that he has not been aggressive enough in tackling illegal immigration laws within his home state.
Aside from immigration, the gripes shared by many Arizonans about health insurance mirror the rest of America. As with the rest of the country, premiums here are high are those who self-insure, there's plenty of bureacracy and many smaller employers don't offer coverage. The group polled by HealthReform.gov was only made up of the thirteen people and presumably, not just in from a Tea Party, however since it's been reported that Arizona has one of the highest rates of uninsured, then the outlook does not look bright unless some major overhauls are made.
